Introduction
With the official election results from Veracruz and Durango now known, analysts have started dissecting the numbers to understand why Morena, the dominant party, won or lost in each locality.
While we may hear about PT’s triumphs and Movimiento Ciudadano’s performance, the proverbial “elephant in the room” – the role of criminal organizations in the June 1 elections – remains largely unaddressed publicly.
The Looming Elections and the New Supreme Court
As we approach the 2027 elections, which will choose 16 governors and 500 federal deputies, and with the presidential campaign season starting in four years, it’s crucial to address this “elephant in the room” and discuss how to prevent criminal groups from further influencing national elections.
The Dilemma for the New Supreme Court
A review of the list of new Supreme Court justices, headed by Oaxaca native Hugo Aguilar, reveals that all are staunchly Lopez Obrador supporters.
One wonders if this concentration of loyalty to the president’s ideology might pose a problem for Palacio, as the architect of the reform intended to disperse power among the new court and its administrative bodies to ensure collective decisions.
All these justices, bound by their unwavering loyalty to Morena, will face a dilemma of divided allegiances. Time will tell if resolving this dilemma doesn’t turn the new Supreme Court into an instrument to curtail changes in the continuity of power.
Unforgivable Harassment of President Sheinbaum
It’s likely that, in threatening unforgivable harassment of President Sheinbaum, the CNTE (Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación) inadvertently exposed the hand behind the teachers’ violence and targeted the most radical sector of Morena – that so far to the left it risks destabilizing itself.
“They never tried this with former President López Obrador,” some argue. However, besides their maneuvers, the ex-president usually avoided actions that could undermine his presidential status by restricting access to events, making dissent virtually impossible.
Many may disagree, but I believe that with enhanced security measures, the Interior Ministry and security cabinet could hold governors accountable for any “collusion” attempts, ensuring the President’s physical safety remains a priority.

Migrant Raids in California: A Challenge for Mexico’s Government
There’s no stopping migrant raids in California, but the Mexican government can insist that ICE and other federal US authorities respect due process and adhere to their claimed “rule of law”…
In anticipation of potential US remittance taxes, President Sheinbaum announced that remittances could be sent via the Bienestar Financial Card, with reduced fees – another form of subsidy, inevitably.
Ricardo Monreal’s Political Maneuvering
By supporting the elder son of former President López Obrador, Zacatecas’ Ricardo Monreal has displayed his political prowess. In uncertain times, it’s wise to secure alliances before any storm.
