Background on DiDi and its Financial Expansion

DiDi, a Chinese-origin company founded in Beijing in 2012, has been expanding its services beyond mobility solutions to various countries. Recently, DiDi announced the launch of DiDi Cuenta, a new digital financial product, as part of its growing presence in the financial sector. This move comes a year after DiDi acquired Sociedad Financiera Popular (Sofipo) JP Sofiexpress, a technology platform specializing in mobility technology.

DiDi’s Existing Financial Products

DiDi Cuenta joins the company’s previous financial offerings: DiDi Préstamos (Loans), DiDi Card, and DiDi Pay. The new digital account is managed by JP Sofiexpress, which was acquired by DiDi in 2024 following authorization from the Mexican National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV).

Key Features of DiDi Cuenta

According to a company statement, DiDi Cuenta provides daily returns without minimum balance requirements, forced terms, or fees. Users can withdraw funds at any time through SPEI transfers, with 24/7 access. The account offers a competitive annual interest rate of 15%, placing it among the highest in regulated financial institutions like Nu or Stori.

Regulation and Security

DiDi Cuenta is regulated by the CNBV, and deposits are protected up to approximately 215,000 pesos per user through the Fondo de Protección de las Sofipos. Bruce Hou, Senior Operations Director of DiDi Cuenta, emphasized that user trust drives their expansion into financial products:

“The confidence of our users is the driving force behind every step we take, always with the purpose of offering them options that are genuinely convenient for them.”

Competition in the Digital Account Market

DiDi enters the digital account market, competing with established platforms such as Mercado Pago, Ualá, and Klar. The company aims to bridge financial gaps and bring more Mexicans into the financial system.

Initial Availability

DiDi Cuenta will initially be available to select DiDi Pasajero app users in the “Wallet” section.
