Introduction to the 2025-2026 School Calendar
The Mexican Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) has released the school calendar for pre-school, primary, and secondary education for the 2025-2026 academic year. This calendar outlines 185 instructional days, following an additional week of vacation as instructed by President Claudia Sheinbaum on May 15, in honor of Teacher’s Day.
Key Dates and Vacations
The school year will commence on Monday, September 1, 2025, and conclude on Friday, July 15, 2026. The current academic year (2024-2025) will end on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
Winter Break
Winter vacation will take place from Monday, December 22, 2025, to Tuesday, January 6, 2026. However, January 7, 8, and 9 will be reserved for workshops for directors and teachers. Students will resume classes on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Easter Break
Easter vacation will run from Monday, March 30, to Friday, April 10, 2026. Classes will resume on Monday, April 13, 2026.
Summer Break
Summer vacation for pre-school, primary, and secondary students will begin on Thursday, July 16, 2026, following the conclusion of the school year. Teachers and administrative staff will continue working for two more days, so their vacation starts on July 18.
Official Holidays
The 2025-2026 school year includes nine official holidays during which all students, teachers, and administrative staff will have the day off:
- Tuesday, September 16: Mexican Independence Movement Beginning Commemoration
- Monday, November 17: Mexican Revolution Commemoration (November 20)
- Thursday, December 25: Christmas
- Thursday, January 1: New Year’s Day
- Tuesday, February 2: Mexican Constitution Commemoration (February 5)
- Monday, March 16: Benito Juárez’s Birthday Commemoration
- Friday, May 1: Labor Day Commemoration
- Tuesday, May 5: Battle of Puebla Commemoration
- Friday, May 15: Teacher’s Day Commemoration
Long Weekends for CTE Sessions
The school calendar includes eight regular sessions of the Consejos Técnicos Escolares (CTE) held on the last Friday of each month. These sessions aim to make decisions that enhance students’ learning experiences.

During these CTE session dates, students will not have classes, creating a “long weekend” effect.
Pre-enrollment and Grade Registration
The pre-enrollment period for pre-school, first-grade primary, and secondary students will be from February 3 to 13, 2026.
Grade registration will occur on November 14, 2025, March 13, and July 3, 2026.
SEP Calendar for Normal Schools and Teacher Training
The SEP also published the calendar for Normal schools and teacher training for basic education in the DOF. It outlines periods for educational planning and teaching enablement:
- August 18 – 29, 2025
- January 26 – 30, 2026
- February 3 – 6, 2026
The professional examination period will be on July 16, 17, 20, 21, and 22. Additionally, the calendar specifies:
- January 7-9, 2026: Intensive Workshop for staff with directorial functions
- Intensive Workshop for teaching staff on January 8 and 9, 2026
