About the G7 Summit
The Group of Seven (G7) is an annual meeting of the world’s leading economies: Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Established in the 1970s, its purpose is to coordinate responses to global challenges such as economic stability, security, and climate change.
Summit Details for 2025
The 51st G7 Summit will take place in Kananaskis, Alberta, from June 15-17, 2025. Canada, as the host country, will set the agenda and speak on behalf of the G7. The member countries meet once a year to discuss pressing issues and create coordinated actions.
Key Themes for Discussion
Under Canada’s presidency, this year’s summit focuses on three strategic missions defined by Prime Minister Mark Carney:
- Protecting Communities and the World: Coordinating global security, countering transnational crime, and strengthening forest fire response.
- Strengthening Energy Security and Accelerating Digital Transition: Promoting critical mineral supply chains, artificial intelligence, and quantum technology.
- Forging Future Alliances: Encouraging private investment, infrastructure, and high-value jobs.
Additionally, topics of international peace and security will be addressed, with a particular focus on the war in Ukraine, sanctions against Moscow, and tensions in the Middle East.

In 2018, Canada sanctioned 17 individuals involved in the assassination of Jamal Khashoggi in Saudi Arabia, leading to tensions with Prince Mohamed Bin Salman. Volodymir Zelenskyy will address sanctions, military support, and reconstruction, hoping to meet with Trump.
