Background on Coffee Consumption and the Study
Coffee, the world’s second most consumed beverage after water, has been the focus of a quality study conducted by the Mexican publication Revista del Consumidor in June. The study examined 33 tossed and ground coffee products, which are obtained by subjecting green coffee beans to roasting at temperatures exceeding 150°C. During this process, the beans lose between 10% and 24% of their original weight.
The Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor (Profeco) carried out a quality assessment on these 33 products, including:

- 5 decaffeinated “tostado y molido” coffees
- 4 “tostado y molido” coffees mixed with caramel or sugar
