Introduction to Querétaro’s Wine Harvest Season
Querétaro, Qro. The wine harvest season in Querétaro has commenced, starting mid-June and extending to October with the celebration of the Festival del Vino Queretano.
According to Eugenio Parrodi Wiechers, president of the Clúster Vitivinícola de Querétaro (CVQ), approximately 20 wine harvests are planned for this edition.
“This season is crucial for us, typically beginning in mid-June and concluding in October, culminating with our Festival del Vino Queretano, an annual event now entering its fifth edition. We aim to make this year’s festival particularly engaging,” Parrodi Wiechers explained.
Wine Harvests as a Major Tourist Attraction
Wine harvests have become a significant draw for visitors and a driving force in enotourism, with local wineries organizing diverse activities throughout the season.
“There are nearly 20 projects participating in this event, each offering a unique experience. Some host events on weekends, while others incorporate live music and create memorable experiences that encourage visitors to explore multiple wineries,” described Parrodi Wiechers.
The 2025 wine harvest season began on June 14 and continues through September, according to the CVQ calendar. The fifth Festival del Vino Queretano is expected to take place in October.
These events provide cultural and gastronomic experiences, including traditional grape stomping, guided tastings, vineyard and winery tours, among other activities.
Production and the Indication Geográfica Protegida (IGP)
Querétaro produces approximately 3.5 million bottles of wine annually, ranking it as Mexico’s third-largest wine producer, according to Parrodi Wiechers.
“Today, Querétaro is recognized as Mexico’s third-largest wine-producing state, with around 600 hectares of vineyards. The Indicación Geográfica Protegida (IGP) will significantly enhance the value of our Querétaro wines,” he stated.
On March 10, 2025, the Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial (IMPI) granted the IGP to Querétaro’s wine region, distinguishing the characteristics and qualities of wines produced in the state. The sector anticipates that this recognition will further boost local wine production.
