Introduction of New Routes to Enhance Tourism in Jalisco

To expand the range of destinations and attract more visitors to Jalisco’s interior, the Secretaría de Turismo de Jalisco (Secturjal) is working on establishing new tourism routes within the state.

Existing and New Tourism Routes

Secturjal is focusing on consolidating the existing Tequila Route in the Valles region and developing a new Tequila Route in the Altos region, along with a Wine Route in the Los Altos and Ribera de Chapala areas, as shared with El Economista. Secretary of Tourism in Jalisco, Michelle Fridman Hirsch, explained:

“We are working on forming, consolidating, and polishing the existing tourism product so that it can be commercialized and branded for promotion. Our goal is to present these new tourism products during the upcoming Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles in October.”

The new tourism offerings are expected to include the Tequila routes in Valles and Altos regions, the Wine Route featuring over 15 wineries across Jalisco, and the Raicilla Route.

Promotion at International Event

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the most prestigious international event for evaluating and recognizing spirits, will host its 27th edition in various iconic cities like Guadalajara, Puerto Vallarta, Tequila, and the Pueblos Mágicos of the Raicilla Route. Fridman Hirsch emphasized:

“We aim to present our diverse regions, including the Tequila routes in Valles and Altos, the Wine Route, and the Raicilla Route. Although these projects are still in their early stages, we want to showcase them during this significant event, as it brings together over 250 international spirits judges.”

Growing Air Connectivity in Jalisco

In addition to the new tourism routes, Secturjal’s head also highlighted the growing air connectivity in Jalisco. A direct air route between Guadalajara and Calgary, Canada is set to begin operations by the end of the current year, linking Jalisco’s capital with four major Canadian airports.

“Puerto Vallarta already connects to numerous Canadian airports, which will undoubtedly boost tourism and the economy,” Fridman Hirsch added.

Aerial Taxi Service to Chalacatepec

Regarding Costalegre, although the authorization for Chalacatepec airport’s operation is still under federal government consideration, Secturjal is working on an aerial taxi project to promote tourism in that destination. Fridman Hirsch elaborated:

“We are collaborating with established airports and regional airlines on an aerial taxi project… We have already held three meetings with local airlines.”
