Guadalajara, Jalisco. A group of 15 diplomats from the Cuerpo Consular de Occidente, representing 43 countries, gathered with local representatives to discuss priority topics for Jalisco’s economic and social development. The group aims to maintain a continuous dialogue with the local Congress to address these issues directly, according to Miguel Ángel Landeros, president of the Cuerpo Consular de Occidente and the Consejo Mexicano de Comercio Exterior (COMCE) in Occidente.
Priority Topics for Discussion
- Migration and subnational diplomacy
- Cooperation instruments
- Creative industries
- Climate action and circular economy
- Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) related to the rule of law
The Cuerpo Consular de Occidente comprises diplomats from nine states in the western region: Aguascalientes, Colima, Guanajuato, Michoacán, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Zacatecas, and Jalisco.
Improved Export Data Measurement
In a separate matter, Miguel Ángel Landeros, president of COMCE Occidente, reported that the Instituto de Información Estadística y Geográfica (IIEG) in Jalisco has developed a methodology to accurately measure the state’s export data under the current state administration.
Previously, the business organization criticized IIEG’s export figures, claiming they were too low and did not reflect reality. Landeros explained that while federal indicators are general, the IIEG provides a more detailed state-level analysis.
According to IIEG, Jalisco’s exports surpassed $40 billion in 2024, compared to the previous government’s estimate of just over $20 billion. Although the methodology is still being refined, Landeros emphasized that the new figures are more accurate and could potentially rise further with complete data cross-referencing.
