Experts Gather to Discuss Ethical, Business, and Information Verification Challenges of AI in Media

On June 25, media executives from Latin America and Europe will convene at the Mexico AI Forum to share their experiences and strategies in addressing the ethical, business, and information verification challenges posed by artificial intelligence (AI) in journalism.

Olga Brito, WAN-IFRA’s Director for Iberoamerica, emphasizes that AI is no longer a distant promise but an integral part of editorial transformation, bringing both opportunities and challenges to media organizations.

AI in Media: Key Challenges and Opportunities

Brito highlights that AI can optimize repetitive tasks, freeing up journalists’ time for unique and valuable content creation. However, she stresses that this should not be seen as a replacement of human capital but rather as an enhancement of journalistic work.

  • Ethical considerations: Transparency in AI-generated content and maintaining editorial integrity are crucial.
  • Business sustainability: Structured integration of AI can lead to operational efficiencies, new editorial products, and increased revenue.
  • Addressing obstacles: Limited access to technology, connectivity issues, and the need for specialized training in Latin America must be overcome.
