Overview of Weather Conditions

The National Water Commission (CONAGUA) has forecasted diverse weather conditions across Mexico’s northern regions. Intense rainfall is expected in Chihuahua and Durango, very strong rains in Sonora and Sinaloa, strong rains in Coahuila, Tamaulipas, and San Luis Potosí, and scattered showers in Nuevo León.

Maximum temperatures are predicted to range from 40 to 45°C in Baja California, Sonora, and Sinaloa; and from 35 to 40°C in Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, and Durango.

Wind Advisories

In Nuevo León, Chihuahua, Coahuila, and Tamaulipas, wind speeds of 30 to 40 km/h are anticipated, with gusts reaching 40 to 60 km/h. Sinaloa and Durango may experience dust storms, while Baja California, Baja California Sur, and Sonora could see severe weather conditions.

Precautionary Measures and Recommendations

On June 18, the Protection Civil agency of Nuevo León urged citizens to follow recommendations and avoid emergency situations due to the anticipated weather conditions.

Erik Cavazos Cavazos’s Appeal

Erik Cavazos Cavazos, head of PCNL, urged the public to avoid crossing swollen rivers, arroyos, or fords that may have currents or flooding. He emphasized the importance of not entering bodies of water, such as rivers or pools, during rainfall.

Cavazos also advised against littering on streets, as excessive waste often clogs drains and causes flooding in urban areas. He highlighted that municipalities within the metropolitan area collect hundreds of tons of trash daily, which contributes to flooding when drains become blocked.

Preparedness and Collaboration

CONAGUA is prepared with 73 personnel through the Carrusel Operation to conduct patrols in high-risk areas and across the state, working alongside all levels of government to ensure readiness for any services required due to precipitation.

The DIF Nuevo León and the network of municipal DIFs have set up 320 temporary shelters to safeguard the population during this rainy season and potential tropical storms.
