Collaborative Forum in Arizona to Boost Mexico’s Integration in North American Semiconductor Supply Chain
The governments of Sonora and Baja California participated in the Binational Collaboration Forum on Semiconductors, held at Arizona State University (ASU) in Tempe. The objective was to promote Mexico’s integration into the North American semiconductor supply chain and create new opportunities for young technicians and local businesses.
Forum Organizers and Participants
The forum was organized with the support of organizations such as the Arizona Commerce Authority, the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU), Mexico’s Secretariat of Economy, the Coordinating Business Council (CCE), and companies like Intel, Skyworks, Plug and Play, and Santander México.
Sonora Presents Advances in Sustainable Energy Plan
During the forum, Sonora’s government presented the advances of the Sonora Sustainable Energy Plan, an initiative led by Governor Alfonso Durazo. This plan positions Sonora as a key player in the global semiconductor industry, focusing on specialized talent development, educational innovation, and clean energy use.
The Sonora delegation, led by Ángela González, Director of Investment Promotion at Prosonora, and Mónica Pinto Serrano, head of the organization, emphasized the importance of building a resilient, competitive, and sustainable binational ecosystem.
“The future of the semiconductor industry depends on an integrated and prepared region. In Sonora, we are building that future with innovation, technical education, and clean energy,” they stated.
They also highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts with businesses, governments, and universities to address the growing global demand for microchips, attract investments, and create quality jobs.
Baja California Consolidates Regional Leadership in Semiconductors
Baja California reaffirmed its leadership in the sector by participating in Chapter 4 of the national forum, focusing on successful coordination cases between Mexico and the United States.
The state delegation was headed by Rodolfo Andrade Pelayo, Undersecretary of Investment Management at the Secretariat of Economy and Innovation (SEI), who presented the state’s strategy based on three pillars: specialized talent, technological infrastructure, and supply chain development.
“The Baja California delegation arrives strong, united, and with vision. We are here with leading companies like Qualcomm, Skyworks, and Infineon, alongside our universities and innovation centers to further strengthen binational collaboration and position the state as a key hub in the region,” Andrade affirmed.
The state representation also included educational institutions such as UABC, CETYS University, UTT, IBERO, and the Mexicali Industrial Development Commission (CDI).
According to local information, Baja California has participated in all four national forum chapters and actively engages in industrial policies related to nearshoring and technological security, leveraging its strategic location, production capacity, and qualified human capital.
