The Immersive Experience: “Tim Burton, El Laberinto”
The highly anticipated exhibition and immersive experience, “Tim Burton, El Laberinto,” opens on June 26 at the Lienzo Charro de Constituyentes in Mexico City. This exhibition showcases Burton’s commitment to creating an unparalleled collection of characters that defy conventional norms and expectations.
What to Expect in the Exhibition
Visitors will be guided through a series of decision-making scenarios, much like navigating a labyrinth. Each choice will lead them to different themed areas, featuring life-sized replicas of Burton’s iconic characters accompanied by over 150 original graphic works. These pieces, many of which are initial sketches, illustrate the evolution from Burton’s original ideas to their final on-screen representations.
- Explore detailed drawings and sculptures of characters such as Victor Frankenstein and Sparky from “Frankenweenie” (2012), the Red Queen from “Alice in Wonderland” (2010), Beetlejuice from the 1988 film, and Victor van Dort and Emily from “Corpse Bride” (2005).
- See Deep Roy’s portrayal of the Oompa-Loompas in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” (2005) and Jack Skellington, the iconic scarecrow from “The Nightmare Before Christmas” (1993).
Quotes from Collaborators
The exhibition also includes quotes from creative collaborators who have shared their experiences working with Burton. Danny Elfman, the musician and longtime collaborator, once said, “From childhood, I’ve loved the twisted, dark, fantastical, and innocent worlds, and Tim is all of that.” Johnny Depp, who has starred in nine of Burton’s films, commented on “Sweeney Todd”: “When I saw those particular drawings just days before shooting, I knew Benjamin Barker would fit my vision perfectly.”
High Demand and Extended Stay
With over 200,000 people on the waiting list and 50,000 tickets sold in the first few days, the exhibition’s organizers, led by Spanish firm Letsgo, have high expectations for attendance. Cristina Hawkins, the marketing director, reported that they have sold around 70,000 tickets so far and will continue accepting reservations starting July 3.
