Background on Martí Batres and FOVISSSTE
Martí Batres Guadarrama, the General Director of the Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE), recently oversaw the distribution of termination certificates and benefits to 200 accredited individuals from the Fondo de Vivienda (FOVISSSTE) in Mexico City. This action is part of the second phase of a support program initiated by Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum, which has already benefited 149,000 rightsholders in its first stage.
Termination Certificates and Benefits Distribution
At the ISSSTE’s Lázaro Cárdenas Auditorium in Buenavista, Mexico City, Martí Batres highlighted that 400,000 rightsholders will be supported with salary freezes, write-offs, reductions, and waivers by 2025. He shared his enthusiasm on social media, stating: “We now have a path for FOVISSSTE-accredited individuals to receive their termination certificates, just like those we distributed today! We will reach 400,000 people benefiting from the freeze-salary, write-off, and waiver programs. We continue transforming FOVISSSTE!”
Batres emphasized that the program, initiated following the signing of a Decree by Presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, has already assisted 149,000 FOVISSSTE accredited individuals. He reaffirmed the Fondo de Vivienda as a tool to ensure housing rights.
First Interactive Kiosk for FOVISSSTE in Mexico City
In addition to the benefits distribution, Martí Batres inaugurated the first Interactive Kiosk for FOVISSSTE in Mexico City, located within the ISSSTE Buenavista complex. This kiosk will provide orientation and follow-up on procedures for rightsholders.
Batres expressed his excitement about the kiosk, stating: “Here, people can connect with information regarding FOVISSSTE’s general services and specific programs currently in place. We’re delighted to give FOVISSSTE a social focus through technology’s use for the people.”
Existing FOVISSSTE Interactive Kiosks
Currently, four FOVISSSTE Interactive Kiosks operate in Mexico: one at the Regional High Specialty Hospital (HRAE) in Torreón, Coahuila; another at Palenque’s Clinic Hospital (CH), Chiapas; a third at the ISSSTE Cabo San Lucas Clinic; and a fourth at Ecatepec’s Family Medicine Clinic (CMF), Estado de México. These kiosks assist rightsholders with printing account statements or applying for credit procedures via video call with an operator.
Second Phase of Condonations Program
Jabnely Maldonado Meza, the Executive Vice President of FOVISSSTE, explained that the termination certificates’ distribution is part of the program’s second phase, which will benefit 135,000 accredited individuals. The support will be automatically and centrally applied with simplified administration, retroactive to January 1, 2023.
Maldonado Meza also mentioned that a program was recently approved to help individuals over 80 liquidate their credit, and another measure was established to prioritize the lowest interest rate in problematic debt cases.
Testimonial from a FOVISSSTE Rightsholder
Gilberto Abarca Jain, representing FOVISSSTE rightsholders, expressed gratitude for the support, which has brought stability and peace of mind to his family. He hoped that more colleagues would benefit from such initiatives in the future.
