Noem discussed cybersecurity and the use of advanced technologies, such as drone surveillance, to dismantle drug trafficking organizations with Guatemala’s President Bernardo Arévalo and other officials.
“This security agreement will provide us with an unprecedented opportunity to share information and pursue criminals,” she emphasized.
Guatemala’s Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, who signed the agreement with Noem, mentioned that it would facilitate “more effective detection of individuals linked to criminal and terrorist networks.”

The agreement includes “joint investigations” and “information exchange,” as people from “all over the world” pass through Guatemala on their way to the US, according to the minister.
Noem also highlighted the assistance program available for migrants returning to Guatemala from the US. This year, around 20,000 deportees have been supported through this program.
Upon returning to Guatemala, migrants can access government support for housing, family care, and vocational training to secure their future, the future of their children, and the future of their grandchildren, Noem explained.
“This country can be a model for others and a leader in the efforts we want to make,” she added, visiting the migrant reception center at La Aurora Airport in Guatemala City.
Noem also praised Arévalo’s willingness to welcome unaccompanied child migrants currently in the US who traveled alone.
“We have identified hundreds of these children in the US who were victims of trafficking, and the president has said he wants to facilitate their return to their families and provide them with rapid education and training assistance,” she said.
