Introduction to the Orquesta Filarmónica de la Diversidad (OFIDI)

The Orquesta Filarmónica de la Diversidad (OFIDI) is set to perform a concert on Sunday, June 29th, at El Cantoral. The program includes the world premiere of “Jotos. Latido imbatible” by Mexican composer Pablo M. Teutli and the Latin American debut of “Poema para violonchelo y orquesta” by Henriëtte Bosmans. The concert will also feature popular songs from Juan Gabriel, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Britney Spears.

Background on Pablo M. Teutli and his composition

A year after its debut, the OFIDI will perform Teutli’s “Jotos. Latido imbatible” as a tribute to the strength of the LGBTQIA+ community. The piece references historical times when homosexuals were confined to the J section of Lecumberri prison, leading to the term “joto.” Teutli describes his composition as having a magical, delicate, and powerful heartbeat that persists and remains unyielding amidst adversity.

Henriëtte Bosmans’ “Poema para violonchelo y orquesta”

The concert, directed by guest conductor Jorge Barradas, will also feature the Latin American debut of Henriëtte Bosmans’ “Poema para violonchelo y orquesta.” This performance aims to highlight women composers who have been overlooked in music history. Bosmans’ work is known for its raw, powerful language and deep understanding of human emotions.

The First National Encounter 2025 Jotos, Lenchas y Vestidas

The OFIDI is participating in the First National Encounter 2025 Jotos, Lenchas y Vestidas, an event featuring 40 musicians from eight Mexican states. The gathering includes masterclasses, social spaces, and organization of a contingent for the Mexico City Pride March on June 28th.

OFIDI’s founding and mission

The OFIDI was founded in 2024 by Eric García Pedro and Guillermo S. Pérez to create a safe, visible space for professional musicians from diverse sexual orientations within classical music. Their goal is to foster an environment where artists can develop freely, embrace their identities, and advocate for their rights while representing various Mexican states.
