Introduction to Plan Mexico and the Need for Transformative Businesses

Plan México, a comprehensive strategy, aims to provide new generations with more opportunities, health, education, and well-being, fostering stability, equity, and a healthier environment. The mere existence of such a plan evokes a profound sense of patriotism, reminding us of the country we envision and cherish – the one we sing about, celebrate with flags, and boast about its food, history, beaches, and people.

The Need for Eco-Conscious and Socially Responsible Companies

To match our dreams of a better nation, we must also imagine and build companies dedicated to preserving nature, supporting farmers, and nurturing the land that feeds us now and in the future. Current corporate structures have long ignored planetary limits and human dignity, making it impossible to achieve the necessary, ambitious goals without a fundamental shift.

We require companies that go beyond mere compliance with basic regulations to compete; instead, they should operate with purpose, prioritizing people’s well-being while being economically viable. These companies should embody transparency, ethics, and responsibility, placing sustainability and equity at their core.

Characteristics of the Desired Enterprises

The desired companies should not just include a sustainability chapter in their reports but be built from the ground up to generate positive social and environmental impacts alongside economic success. They must adhere to high standards of transparency, ethics, and responsibility, ensuring sustainability and equity are central to their decision-making processes.

These companies should inspire pride, much like when someone speaks of Mexico while away from home. They should empower employees, suppliers, and communities while regenerating the land we all share.

Plan Mexico’s Role in Fostering Transformative Businesses

For Plan Mexico to be truly transformative, it must explicitly advocate for a new generation of purpose-driven companies committed to regenerating rural areas, promoting clean energy, including women in rural areas and local producers, and holding themselves accountable for their environmental and social impacts as seriously as they do for profitability.

Identifying and supporting these companies is challenging. We need to incentivize, accompany, and provide growth spaces for them – spaces that acknowledge their value. This can be achieved by awarding positive scores in public tenders for companies contributing to climate action plans and national emission reduction commitments.

Just as the Secretary of Tourism promotes our best destinations, we should also highlight our top companies. Plan Mexico can become the platform that drives this new corporate landscape we desperately need. However, simply inviting “businesses” in general is insufficient; we must create conditions for purpose-driven companies to thrive, rather than merely operate within the existing system.
