Introduction

The Mexican Franchise Association (AMF) and Nacional Financiera (Nafin) have signed a collaboration agreement to enhance access to financing through training and technical assistance for franchises.

Background on the Importance of Franchises in Mexico

The franchise sector in Mexico is a significant contributor to the economy, accounting for over 5% of the GDP and generating more than one million jobs. It unites more than 1,500 brands across the country.

The Need for Improved Financing Access

According to the National Survey of Business Financing (ENAFIN) 2024 by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, only 50% of micro, small, and medium enterprises (mipymes), many of which are new franchises, have ever sought financing. Of those who applied, 45.9% successfully obtained it.

  • Key obstacles identified: lack of collateral (21%) and insufficient credit history (18%).
  • Consequences: 72% of affected companies reported operational impacts, including canceled investments and loss of clients.

Strategic Collaboration Details

The agreement outlines several actions between the organizations, including:

  • Development of free national training cycles in both virtual and in-person formats, focusing on intellectual property, licensing, and franchise business models.
  • Creation of specialized materials and certificates of participation, validated by both institutions.
  • Establishment of a semi-annual course agenda covering the second semester of 2025.

Training Program

The agreement includes:

  • Free national training cycles in both virtual and in-person formats, focusing on intellectual property, licensing, and franchise business models.
  • The first online course will take place from July 14-18, 2025, with evening sessions from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
  • Further virtual and in-person sessions will be scheduled later.
