Background on Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP)
Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP) is the concessionaire responsible for managing 12 airports in Peru: Anta, Cajamarca, Chachapoyas, Chiclayo, Iquitos, Pisco, Piura, Pucallpa, Talara, Tarapoto, Trujillo, and Tumbes. These airports are expected to serve approximately 8 million passengers in their network.
The Importance of AdP and its Concessionaire Status
AdP is a private company that operates under the framework of a cofinanced concession. Despite being privately owned, all its projects are classified as public investments. This means AdP must adhere to the regulations and approvals required for public works.
Upcoming Investments
Evans Avendaño, the General Manager of Aeropuertos del Perú, announced that nearly $780 million will be invested over the next five years to improve infrastructure across these 12 airports.
In addition to the upcoming investments, AdP has already allocated around $600 million for piste rehabilitation projects in recent years. If all planned projects are completed within AdP’s concession period, the total investment in infrastructure modernization will exceed $2,000 million.
Challenges and Solutions
Avendaño highlighted the complexities involved in obtaining approvals from various governmental bodies for each airport project. He mentioned the need to streamline processes and reduce delays, suggesting closer collaboration with ministries like the Ministerio de Economía y Finanzas.
- Streamlining Processes: AdP aims to adopt a more engineering visualization approach to create technical documents, which would expedite the creation of project profiles.
- Third-Party Studies: AdP plans to outsource studies currently conducted within government institutions.
Impact on Passengers and the Aviation Industry
These significant investments by AdP will enhance the infrastructure of 12 airports in Peru, ultimately improving passenger experience and facilitating smoother operations for airlines. The upgrades will contribute to the growth of Peru’s aviation sector and strengthen connectivity between major cities and regional areas.
