Regional Hub to Benefit 13 Municipios and Advance Public Health Education with Social Justice Focus
The new USEP (Universidad de la Salud del Estado de Puebla) campus in the Mixteca region of Puebla, Mexico, was launched with a ceremonial stone-laying by Governor Alejandro Armenta. The project, valued at 48.8 million pesos, aims to ensure the right to education and healthcare by integrating security and humanism in both areas.

During the “Seguridad para el Bienestar” event, Governor Armenta highlighted that only 5% of young individuals aspiring to study medicine currently succeed in gaining admission. The regional campus seeks to change this scenario by bringing medical education closer to underserved Mixteca communities.
“Security is not only achieved with police and patrols; it’s also guaranteed through public education and healthcare. That’s why this university is a strategic project,” stated Governor Alejandro Armenta.
Bringing Education and Healthcare to Underserved Communities
Alejandro Armenta emphasized, “We are providing a real response by bringing education to train doctors, nurses, and health specialists without forcing young people to leave their hometowns.”
The new campus will feature classrooms, practical labs, simulators, and a metal structure teaching unit. Additionally, it will include sanitary facilities, perimeter fencing, a water tank, access gate, electrical, plumbing, and sanitation systems. Over 20 million pesos will be allocated for furniture and equipment.

The regional hub will benefit students from 14 municipios: Chietla, Tepeojuma, San Martín Totoltepec, Izúcar de Matamoros, Tilapa, Epatlán, Tepexco, Tlapanalá, Atzala, Xochiltepec, Ahuatlán, Teopantlán, and San Diego la Mesa Tochimiltzingo.
