Background on Emilia Calleja Alor and the Relevance of Her Visit

Emilia Calleja Alor, the General Director of Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), recently conducted a technical visit to the Grijalva Hydroelectric System in Chiapas. This visit highlights her commitment to modernizing and strengthening the country’s hydroelectric infrastructure, aligning with President Claudia Sheinbaum’s Plan of Strengthening and Expansion of the National Electric System (2025-2030) through the Secretariat of Energy and CFE.

Key Projects and Modernization Efforts

During her visit, Calleja Alor inspected the Belisario Domínguez “La Angostura” hydroelectric plant and the Chicoasén II hydroelectric project, both part of the Grijalva Hydroelectric System in Chiapas.

  • Belisario Domínguez “La Angostura”: Calleja Alor reviewed the progress of modernizing five electrical generators, turbines, transformers, and auxiliary systems. This upgrade will increase the plant’s capacity by 100 MW, raising its annual generation to 260.0 GWh.
  • Chicoasén II: Calleja Alor, accompanied by the Directors of Operations, Engineering and Infrastructure Projects, and Subdirector of Generation, oversaw the progress of the Chicoasén II hydroelectric project. This new central will add to the existing Peñitas, Malpaso, La Angostura, and Chicoasén plants.

The Grijalva Hydroelectric System, with a total installed capacity of 4,800 megawatts and 23 generating units, supplies electricity to Tuxtla Gutiérrez and Tapachula in Chiapas, Oaxaca, Tabasco, Coatzacoalcos, Campeche, Yucatán, Quintana Roo, and central Mexico.

Chicoasén II Project Details

The Chicoasén II project will feature three bulb-type turbines, three speed regulators, and three generators as its primary equipment. Scheduled to commence operations between late 2026 and early 2027, this central will harness water resources from Chicoasén turbines and natural river flow to inject 240.0 MW of energy into the electrical grid.

Recognition and Impact

Calleja Alor acknowledged the dedication and hard work of CFE professionals in strengthening the Commission as a company serving Mexican families.
