Introduction

In a groundbreaking initiative, Afore Sura and Kidzania Cuicuilco have teamed up to introduce the first-ever Interactive Retirement Savings Center for children. This innovative space aims to teach kids about the importance of saving, investing, and planning for retirement from a young age.

About Afore Sura

Afore Sura is one of Mexico’s leading private pension fund administrators, managing the retirement savings of over 2.5 million people. Emilio Bertrán, the General Director of Afore Sura, emphasizes the significance of integrating financial concepts into children’s education to foster beneficial habits for their adult lives.

About Kidzania Cuicuilco

Kidzania Cuicuilco is an educational city designed for children, offering interactive learning experiences that simulate real-world scenarios. The collaboration with Afore Sura aims to introduce children to essential financial concepts in a fun and engaging environment.

The Interactive Retirement Savings Center

The new center, inaugurated by Afore Sura at Kidzania Cuicuilco, provides children with an interactive and educational experience. They can grow their kidzos (Kidzania’s currency) throughout the day, learning about returns on investments similar to adults with Afores (private pension funds) in Mexico.

Learning about Afores

Children will have access to interactive and educational materials that teach them about saving, Afores, and retirement planning. This hands-on approach helps kids understand the importance of planning for their financial future.

The Role of Parents and Guardians

Emilio Bertrán, the General Director of Afore Sura, stresses the importance of parents and guardians in reinforcing financial literacy lessons learned at the center. He encourages adults to engage in conversations with their children about what they’ve learned, asking questions like “What did you learn today?” and “How many kidzos did you earn?” to encourage further discussion at home.

Julio César Cervantes Parra, President of the National Commission for the Retirement Savings System (Consar), highlights the benefits of instilling healthy financial habits in children from a young age.

Instruments of Savings for Children

Cervantes Parra encourages the use of savings instruments designed for children, such as Afore Niños. With a minimum investment of 50 pesos and using the CURP (Unique Registry of Population), children can open an Afore Niños account with any administrator.

“Over 125,000 children already have an Afore Niños account,” Cervantes Parra concludes, emphasizing the growing interest in teaching children about financial responsibility.
