Ecosistema Puebla Digital Hub to Aid 1,500 SMEs in Digital Transformation
Puebla, Pue. The Secretariat for Economic Development and Employment (Sedetra) has signed a partnership with SkyLand to establish the Ecosistema Puebla Digital technology hub, aiming to support 1,500 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in their digital transformation to enable them to participate in international exports.
Víctor Gabriel Chedraui, Sedetra’s head, stated that the initiative aims to have SMEs sell their products globally within a few years.
Chedraui highlighted that this support would create over 6,000 direct and indirect jobs within six months, opening new online trade opportunities. In five years, he anticipates advising 3,500 businesses from 50 municipalities, resulting in an 8% annual increase in exports.
Ecosistema Puebla Digital Components
The Ecosistema Puebla Digital initiative includes financial education, community inclusion, and retaining at-risk youth, addressing a significant concern for the state government seeking to minimize migrant expulsion.
Private Investment and Government Support
Chedraui emphasized that this project is a 100% private investment with no cost to the state government, ensuring a commitment to its success. The state government aims to help SMEs find new markets, especially abroad, through online trade if they have sufficient production volumes.
Unique Support for SMEs
Chedraui mentioned that this is the first time such support has been offered, as SMEs previously relied on intermediaries who profited without much effort. Now, SMEs can directly access international markets.
SkyLand’s Contribution
Adriana Basulto Pastrana, SkyLand’s representative, explained that the long-term goal of Ecosistema Puebla Digital is to ensure at least 35% of the beneficiaries are women, 8% from indigenous communities, and more than 50% of trained entrepreneurs remain active.
