Chile’s Thought and Culture Take Center Stage at FILUNI

FILUNI’s Seventh Edition: A Cultural and Scientific Spanish Language Gathering

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is hosting the seventh edition of its International Literary Encounter, FILUNI, from August 26 to 31. This year, the event’s theme is “The Spanish Language: The Language of Culture and Science,” and the University of Chile will be the Honorary Guest. The Chilean delegation, consisting of around 120 academics, authors, and artists, will participate in this cultural and academic gathering.

Prominent Figures from Chilean Literature, Politics, and Arts

Notable participants include former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, Mexico’s Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources Alicia Bárcena, renowned Chilean poet Raúl Zurita, Ecuadorian writer María Fernanda Ampuero, Indian historian Tithi Bhattacharya, Chilean illustrator and designer Alberto Montt, Colombian essayist and novelist Piedad Bonnett, and Argentine author Claudia Piñeiro. Additionally, Álvaro Díaz, the creator of the popular Chilean TV show “31 Minutos,” will share insights about his production.

Last year, FILUNI attracted 43,000 attendees. This year, organizers aim to surpass that number. The event aims to promote academic research and educational innovation through publications, while also fostering debate and reflection on critical issues. The University of Chile’s participation seeks to create a bridge between the two countries’ communities, encouraging collaborative thinking about Latin America’s present and future.
