Overview of the Event

On Thursday afternoon and into Friday morning, intense rainfall in Mexico City resulted in flooding across 119 properties, primarily affecting the boroughs of Tláhuac, Xochimilco, and Iztapalapa. Additionally, there were 126 waterlogged areas and the falling of 46 trees on major roads, according to the capital’s government.

Major Road Impacts

Among the most affected roads were Viaducto, Camino a Santa Teresa, Carretera Picacho Ajusco, Eje 1 Norte, Hangares, Oceanía, and Insurgentes Sur.

River Overflow and Tree Falls

In Xochimilco, the San Buenaventura River overflowed due to water flow from Tlalpan. However, the situation was controlled with the help of hydraulic teams and emergency equipment.

Meanwhile, in Tláhuac, the Luis Delgado Canal remained stable thanks to pumping efforts and the placement of sandbags.

Coordinated Response

As part of the Tlaloque operation by the Integral Water Management Secretariat (Segiagua), personnel from Segiagua, the Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection Secretariat (SGIRPC), the Security City Secretariat (SSC), and the Heroic Firefighters Corps collaborated to address the impacts in coordination with the boroughs.

  • Firefighters: Attended to 26 short circuits and 6 fallen poles.
  • Segiagua: Deployed 210 personnel and 86 vehicles to mitigate waterlogging.
  • SSC: Provided assistance to stranded drivers and facilitated the transportation of affected individuals.

Heaviest Rainfall Accumulation

The weather stations with the highest accumulations were Municipio Libre (Iztapalapa) with 49.5 mm, Chalmita (Gustavo A. Madero) with 46.5 mm, and La Joya (Tlalpan) with 46 mm.
