Introduction to Nuevo León’s Data Center Boom

Nuevo León is set to become the vanguard of Mexico’s data center industry and a redundant hub for the same industry in the United States, according to the Oroma industrial park development by Taylor Jackson Developers.

MEXCD’s Projections for the Data Center Sector

The Mexican Association of Data Centers (MEXCD) estimates that the sector will attract direct investments totaling approximately $9,192 million to Mexico over the next five years. Furthermore, it is projected that the data center industry will contribute 5.2% to Mexico’s GDP by 2029.

Growing Demand for Digital Services and Data Storage

Héctor Santos, commercial partner of Oroma Park, explained that the development stems from the increasing demand for digital services and the need to store and process large volumes of information, ensuring Mexico’s connectivity with the world.

Strategic Location and Resources

Oroma Park, designed to accommodate technology industries and high-energy consuming data centers, offers access to logistics, water, electricity, and natural gas services that ensure reliability and redundancy.

Redundancy in Services

Strategic Location Advantages

Owing to its strategic location, Linares has access to a gas pipeline originating from Texas and guarantees the supply of over 500 megawatts, thanks to its proximity to the largest CFE (Comisión Federal de Electricidad) substation in Nuevo León, Las Lajas.

Critical Water Access

Santos highlighted in an interview that water access is another crucial factor for the data center industry. Oroma Park has five wells ensuring 35 liters per second, along with industrial water supplying an additional 25 liters per second, which directly benefits the municipality through water capture, treatment, and reuse techniques to minimize wastage.

Educational Infrastructure Support

Santos mentioned that Nuevo León’s educational infrastructure supports the demand for specialized human capital required by this industry.

Investment Retention in Mexico

The goal is to keep strategic investments within the country, fostering growth and development in Mexico’s data center sector.
