The Festival Internacional Cervantino (FIC), established in 1972, is widely regarded as one of the top three international festivals for performing arts. Highlights of the Cervantino Program
The opening ceremony will feature a Monumental Fandango from the invited state, Veracruz, while the closing act will be headlined by British musician Damon Albarn with his project Africa Express. This collaboration includes musicians from Mali, Uganda, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Throughout the 17-day festival, attendees will enjoy performances by Julieta Venegas accompanied by the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato, soprano Olivia Gorra with the Sinfónica del Gobierno de Veracruz, Sonido Gallo Negro, Palestinian DJ Sama’ Abdulhadi, and Argentine artist Nathy Peluso. The London Sinfonietta, led by Jonathan Berman, will perform at Teatro Juárez, and the Banda de Gaitas del Batallón de San Patricio will take to the streets of Guanajuato.
Additionally, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen with Canadian violinist James Ehnes and Italian conductor Riccardo Minasi, Korean dance company Jajack Movement, and Spanish theater company Atra Bilis Teatro will also participate. Veracruzan tenor Javier Camarena will perform with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa, his hometown’s orchestra.
