Overview of the U.S. Stock Market Performance

The U.S. stock market experienced a significant surge on Tuesday, closing with an unusually positive session despite recent declines. The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased by 2.66% to 39,186.98 points; the S&P 500 rose by 2.51% to 5,287.75 points; and the Nasdaq Composite advanced by 2.71% to 16,300.42 points.

These gains marked the second-fastest increase since early November, just behind the extraordinary surge on April 9. However, the market was unable to erase four consecutive days of losses (three for the S&P 500) that preceded this rally.

Recent Market Trends and Uncertainty

The market has experienced three weekly declines in the last four periods, driven by uncertainty from U.S. tariffs and recent criticisms of the Federal Reserve by President Donald Trump.

The Federal Reserve has shown caution due to the potential inflationary effects of U.S. tariffs imposed on numerous countries. Despite the suspension of tariffs on several nations for negotiations, tensions with China have not eased, and no public negotiations between the two powers have been announced.

Treasury Secretary Bessent’s Remarks and Market Impact

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s statement that the U.S.-China trade war is unsustainable likely contributed to the market’s rebound, as he anticipates a decrease in tensions “soon,” according to media reports.

Mexican Stock Market Performance

The Mexican stock market also contributed to the positive tone of Tuesday’s session, amidst a string of gains seemingly detached from U.S. volatility while keeping focus on the trade and economic landscape.

The S&P/BMV IPC, managed by the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV), rose 1.90% to 54,777.84 points, while the FTSE-BIVA, the most representative index of the Bolsa Institucional de Valores (Biva), increased by 1.93% to 1,115.64 points.

Mexican stocks have experienced five consecutive days of gains, a trend not seen since mid-February. The S&P/BMV IPC recorded its second-largest increase since February 6, while the FTSE-BIVA had its second-best session since October 4. Both indices concluded at their highest levels since July 12, as investors await upcoming quarterly reports.
