Overview and Key Participants

This week, a Queretaran delegation will travel to New York, United States, led by Governor Mauricio Kuri González. The mission is to secure investments and hold meetings with technology companies, as well as discuss environmental matters. The trip starts on Wednesday and concludes on Saturday.

Focus on Reducing Bureaucracy

Regarding regulatory challenges faced by businesses looking to establish themselves in Queretaro, Governor Kuri emphasized that his administration aims to streamline procedures and reduce bureaucratic burdens.

“Today, I am embarking on a trip and returning Saturday to bring more companies. (…) It’s to New York; I have meetings with some people to discuss environmental issues and matters with certain companies; and to keep pushing for investment attraction. It’s just two days,” he stated.

To simplify the process of setting up a company, the state government continues its strategy to digitize administrative tasks.

One of the goals for the current administration (2021-2027) is to position Queretaro as the top entity in regulatory improvement, according to Kuri.

Regulatory Challenges

In this context, México Evalúa analyzed Queretaro’s situation through the study ¡A romper barreras! How to boost investment in Mexico.

In an environment with expectations for business relocation and opening, the report highlighted that Queretaro faces at least 403 regulatory barriers and economic costs potentially exceeding 4.4 million pesos due to delays in opening or operating a business.

The study examined regulatory barriers in Queretaro, as well as the municipalities of Queretaro, El Marques, and San Juan del Rio—the most important industrial areas. México Evalúa provided recommendations to strengthen regulatory clarity.

US Investment

In terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) received by Queretaro, the first quarter of 2025 saw $302 million, with $101.1 million (36.5%) from US capital, according to the Secretariat of Economy.

Despite the current trade relationship challenges between Mexico and the United States, the latter remains the primary source of FDI.
