Background and Relevance of the Project

The Group Aeroportuario de Pacífico (GAP) has demonstrated its commitment to the International Airport of Puerto Vallarta by investing 920 million pesos in the construction of a second passenger terminal. This new terminal is expected to commence operations in the second half of 2027, with current construction progress standing at 54%.

Omar Torres, the terminal’s director, expressed his confidence in the project, stating that GAP’s investment will stimulate regional growth and attract new hotel investments. He emphasized, “We believe in the destination’s potential and its capacity for expected growth with the government as an ally.”

Sustainability and Capacity Enhancements

During a tour of the construction site, Torres highlighted the pursuit of LEED Oro certification, symbolizing a high degree of sustainability. The new terminal will feature eight new contact positions and four remote ones, resulting in a total of 19 contact and 13 remote positions for both domestic and international flights. This expansion will provide a total area of 119,114 square meters, enhancing the travel experience for users with a capacity to accommodate six million passengers.

Current Airport Operations and Future Growth

Currently, the airport operates 18 airlines, including Mexicana de Aviación, offering 52 routes during peak season (14 domestic, 22 to the United States, and 16 to Canada). Between January and July of the previous year, the airport served 4.3 million passengers (6.2 million in the previous year).

Torres is optimistic about the new terminal’s potential, stating, “With the new terminal, we will be able to double the number of passengers served and provide a fresh impetus to the region’s economic development.”

Upcoming Airline Additions

In November, low-cost Canadian airline Porter will commence operations with three routes. Southwest is also expected to join the airport in the coming year, further expanding its offerings.

Unique Features of the New Terminal

The new terminal will introduce a green area for passengers before entering, creating an identity-driven travel experience. This innovative approach aims to redefine the passenger journey, setting Puerto Vallarta’s airport apart from others.
