Introduction to the New Supreme Court Members

On the evening of September 1, 2025, nine new members of Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) took their oath before the full Senate. The new president of the SCJN, Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, led this group. The ceremony was attended by Secretary of Governance Rosa Icela Rodríguez, representing President Claudia Sheinbaum, and Ernestina Godoy, the legal advisor to the Presidency.

During the solemn session, a total of 881 federal judges will be invested. This includes five members of the Tribunal de Disciplina Judicial (TDJ): Celia Maya, Eva Verónica de Gyves Zárate, Indira Isabel García Pérez, Bernardo Bátiz Vázquez, and Rufino H. León Tovar.

Additionally, Gilberto de G. Bátiz García and Claudia Valle Aguilasocho, members of the Sala Superior del Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación (TEPJF), were also present.

The PRI parliamentary group decided not to attend the solemn session, while the PAN bloc left the legislative chamber after Ricardo Anaya, their coordinator, expressed his opposition to the judicial reform that establishes popular election of the members of the Judicial Power.
