Introduction to Siemens’ Investment in Querétaro

Siemens, a leading German multinational conglomerate, has announced an investment of 1,874 million pesos to modernize its Balvanera plant in Querétaro, Mexico. This strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to enhancing its operations and production capabilities in the region.

Background on Balvanera Plant

The Balvanera plant, established in 1987, has been a cornerstone of Siemens’ operations for nearly four decades. Its primary functions include prefabrication (punching, welding, painting), assembly (electrical and mechanical assembly), testing (primary inspection and control tests), and release (packaging and shipping).

Investment Details

This modernization project encompasses the renewal of buildings and machinery, as well as digitalizing and automating processes. The plant will also see an increase in prefabrication capacity through the acquisition of equipment for painting, bending, and punching.

In 2024, Siemens initiated operations in the Greenfield project at the Kaizen Industrial Park in Colón and started optimizing processes at the Balvanera plant. These earlier projects totaled 1,090 million pesos. The new investment in Balvanera, combined with the Kaizen investment, amounts to 1,874 million pesos—an additional 784 million pesos compared to the announcement in November 2023.

Strengthening Capabilities

Siemens also highlighted its 2022 groundbreaking of the Mitras project in Santa Catarina, Nuevo León, where they invested 1,220 million pesos to expand production capacities. This project concluded in 2024, and Siemens plans to invest an additional 131 million pesos between 2025 and 2026 to enhance moldeo plant capacity and improve low-tension product support.

These investments, totaling nearly 3,225 million pesos over the past two years, reflect Siemens’ global and regional strategy of modernization, digitalization, and sustainability.

Siemens Mexico’s Leadership Perspective

Alejandro Preinfalk, President and CEO of Siemens Mexico, Centroamérica y el Caribe, expressed that these investments symbolize the company’s confidence in Mexico as a strategic driver for industrial innovation in the region.

“By bolstering our operations in both locations, we not only expand our production capacity but also reaffirm our commitment to technological development, sustainability, and local value generation,” Preinfalk stated.

Siemens’ Industrial Presence in Mexico

These investments complement Siemens’ existing industrial presence in other Mexican regions, including Chihuahua, the City of Mexico, and Jalisco.
