Introduction to the Festival and Its Significance

The Morelia Government has reaffirmed its commitment to cinema as a key driver for the local cultural industry. In the official presentation ceremony, it was announced that the 23rd International Film Festival of Morelia (FICM) will take place from October 10 to 19, 2025.

FICM 2025: A Detailed Overview

Presented by Maprhe, this edition will feature pre-opening screenings on October 9 and showcase a total of 102 films in competition, including 15 works from Michoacan and 62 titles in the Mexican short film selection. This includes 16 animated shorts, 14 documentaries, and 32 fictional shorts. Furthermore, 11 Mexican feature films will compete this year, with winners eligible for a nomination to the Academy Awards.

Renowned Guests and Film Screenings

The festival will host distinguished guests such as Juliette Binoche, Lucrecia Martel, Jafar Panahi, Robin Campillo, and Javier Espada. Films from prestigious festivals like Cannes, Berlin, and Venice will be screened, including Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated film “Frankenstein.”

Tributes and Collaborations

In collaboration with the National Cinematheque, UNAM Filmoteca, and Fundación Televisa, the FICM will pay tribute to Maria Felix with a retrospective of seven films and a photographic exhibition titled ‘Una diosa para una diosa’ in the Andador Hidalgo of Morelia’s Historic Center from October 7 to 22.

The Indigenous Peoples’ Forum will host its Third Laboratory for the Development of Cinematographic Projects for Indigenous and Afro-Mexican Filmmakers. Simultaneously, the Impulso Morelia initiative celebrates 11 years of fostering post-production projects with the participation of industry experts.
