Program Details and Impact on Durango, Coahuila, and Sonora
During her tour in Durango, President Claudia Sheinbaum unveiled a comprehensive program to enhance meat production of top-quality for both domestic consumption and export, with an investment close to 700 million pesos. This initiative aims to support ganaderos (cattle ranchers) in Durango, Coahuila, and Sonora by providing bovine sementales (semen), a support fund for fattening, and Integral Production Centers for both domestic and international markets.
Sheinbaum expressed gratitude to Durango’s ganaderos for joining this initiative, which aims to bolster the domestic market while maintaining export capabilities. This comes amidst the closure of the US border to Mexican standing cattle due to the gusano barrenador (gastrointestinal nematode) outbreak, despite ranchers’ efforts to contain it in the southern regions.
