Background on the Environmental Contingency

The Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico (ZMVM) will remain on Phase 1 of environmental contingency for ozone on Thursday, April 24, to reduce population exposure to polluted air. The Commission for Environmental Affairs of the Megacity (CAMe) confirmed that the Double Hoy No Circula rule will be implemented for this date.

Adverse weather conditions continued to hinder the dispersion of pollutants during the afternoon on Wednesday in the ZMVM, according to CAMe.

Air Quality Forecast for Thursday

According to the Mexico City Atmospheric Monitoring System, air quality on Thursday will be “Poor to Very Poor” due to a high-pressure system over central Mexico, causing clear skies and intense solar radiation throughout the day. The wind profile will also be weak.

CAMe urges the public to follow health recommendations to avoid exposure during predicted high pollution levels between 1 PM and 5 PM on Thursday.
