Querétaro’s Interim Chamber of Commerce President Urges Businesses to Secure Their Operations

Insurance as a Safeguard Against Intense Rainfall
Facing the intense rains that have been registered in recent weeks, Loya Poletti urged the commercial sector to safeguard their economic units through insurance. He mentioned that there are affordable options available in the market.
- Affordable Insurance Options: Loya Poletti stated, “We estimate that around 38% of our members have insurance precisely for these types of situations (heavy rains). … There is still a high percentage of entrepreneurs who do not have insurance, and we invite them to start contracting it. These types of insurances are not expensive; they cost less than 3,000 to 4,000 pesos annually to protect half a million or one million pesos.”
- Importance of Insurance: He emphasized, “We tell our members that they need to use these types of insurances; it’s the mentality of large countries: having insurance for everything. The entrepreneur needs to have it, and more than ever, nature is changing every year.”
- Collaboration for Discounts: The Chamber of Commerce signed a collaboration agreement with a consulting firm to offer 10% discounts when processing insurance policies.
Tequisquiapan Floods and Water Supply
Regarding the water supply disruption caused by the Zimapán dam’s discharge, the Chamber’s president reported that businesses have not reported any significant impacts. They have managed to maintain water supplies.
- No Major Impacts Reported: He declared, “We have been in close contact with the members in general from all sectors. Especially last weekend, I spoke with hotel members, who we thought would be affected the most. However, there have been no impacts overall; everyone is working and preparing for the lack of water.”
- Preparation for Prolonged Disruption: Despite the current situation, they anticipate potential impacts if the disruption continues. Consequently, the Chamber has established agreements with water tanker suppliers to offer preferential prices to members.
- Preferential Pricing Agreements: They have agreements with around four water suppliers to access prices ranging from 1,600 to 1,800 pesos for a 10,000-liter tanker and between 200 to 300 pesos for a 1,100-liter drum as of Monday morning, no members had requested this service.
