Introduction of Mercado Libre Negocios to Streamline B2B Transactions
Mercado Libre, a leading e-commerce platform, has officially launched Mercado Libre Negocios, a new division dedicated to facilitating and professionalizing wholesale product purchases between businesses (B2B).
Significance of B2B E-commerce
Mercado Libre highlighted the importance of this segment, as global B2B e-commerce represents four times the volume of B2C (business-to-consumer) transactions, according to data from consultancy Statista.
Moreover, the B2B market is projected to maintain steady growth in the coming years, as stated by Mercado Libre in a press release.
Target Audience and Market Demand
This target market is characterized by higher average transaction values, more frequent purchases, larger order volumes, and lower return rates. In Latin America alone, the platform has already amassed over four million users for wholesale purchases. In Mexico, it offers more than 420,000 products since the pilot phase began in October 2024.
Mercado Libre emphasized that this new division addresses market demand, as sellers seek simpler and more flexible ways to serve their wholesale clients. Meanwhile, buying businesses look for better prices, improved purchasing conditions, and more efficient processes.
David Geisen’s Vision
According to David Geisen, General Manager of Mercado Libre in Mexico and SVP of Commerce for Hispanics, “Mercado Libre Negocios is a concrete bet on local commerce, aiming to help businesses digitize, grow, and become more competitive, both within and outside their region.”
He further explained that the new division aims to simplify and professionalize wholesale buying and selling through technology and access to the entire Mercado Libre ecosystem.
Target Audience and Benefits
Mercado Libre Negocios caters to small entrepreneurs and large corporations, as well as government institutions with a Federal Taxpayer Registry (RFC).
- Offering preferential conditions for purchases ranging from single units to wholesale orders, with “competitive prices,” more efficient deliveries, and access to all platform ecosystem benefits.
- Ensuring secure payments, access to financing, and interest-free installments through Mercado Pago, the company’s financial services platform.
Current Operations and Future Expansion
Mercado Libre Negocios is currently operational in Argentina, Chile, and will officially launch in Brazil next. This strategic expansion aims to support local businesses by fostering digital transformation, growth, and competitiveness.
