Isaac Del Toro’s Remarkable Week in Italy

Mexican cyclist Isaac Del Toro continued his magical streak in Italy, securing his fourth victory of the week by winning the Trofeo Matteotti on Sunday. His time was 4:29:03, capping off a remarkable week that saw him claim victories in the GP Industria & Artigianato, Giro della Toscana, and Coppa Sabatini.

The Historic Trofeo Matteotti

Held in Pescara since 1945, the Trofeo Matteotti is a one-day race covering 195 kilometers. Only once before had a Latin American cyclist won this prestigious event: Orluis Aular from Venezuela in 2024. Now, Del Toro is the second Latin American to claim this title.

Del Toro’s Dominant Performance

Del Toro finished second overall in the race, with Portuguese cyclist Rui Costa (EF Education-Easypost) coming in second and Spanish rider Paul Miquel (Kern Pharma) taking third place. Nairo Quintana from Colombia and Richard Carapaz from Ecuador failed to finish in the top 20.

“In the final kilometers, I knew I had strong legs. When the sprint opened up, I gave it my all. Winning the Trofeo Matteotti in this manner is truly special. It’s a historic race, and winning with a sprint makes it even more satisfying,” Del Toro said.

UAE Team Emirates Ties Global Record for Wins

Del Toro’s victory was part of an even more significant achievement for UAE Team Emirates, as they tied the world record for most professional cycling team victories in a single season. This feat was accomplished with the help of American cyclist Brandon McNulty’s win in the Gran Premio de Montreal, supported by teammate Tadej Pogacar.

The Road to 85 Wins

With McNulty and Del Toro’s victories, UAE Team Emirates reached 85 wins in 2025, matching the record set by Team Columbia-HTC in 2009. Tadej Pogacar, who recently secured his fourth Tour de France title, praised the team’s success:

“It has been a highly successful season for the team. Many of our riders have had opportunities, and they’ve capitalized on them. Almost everyone has won something this year, showcasing their hard work and dedication.”

Upcoming Challenges for UAE Team Emirates

With several races remaining in 2025, UAE Team Emirates aims to break the record for team victories. Del Toro and Pogacar are key figures in this pursuit. One of the upcoming events is the Road Cycling World Championships in Rwanda from September 21-28, where Del Toro has already been selected to represent the team.

“The team was incredible today, and their support was absolutely crucial. I’m grateful for their trust and confidence, and I’ll approach the World Championships with strength and determination. I’m very motivated for what lies ahead,” Del Toro expressed.

Isaac Del Toro’s Rising Stature

At 21, Del Toro joined UAE Team Emirates in 2024 and has quickly become one of the team’s most valuable assets. His impressive performances this season have solidified his position as a rising star in the professional cycling world.
