Overview

The Emmy Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of television,” were held in Los Angeles on Sunday. Among the notable winners was “Adolescencia,” a Netflix drama that follows a young man accused of killing a classmate. The series, which delves into the tragic consequences of toxic masculinity among youth, won six awards.

“Adolescencia” – A Standout Drama

“Adolescencia,” starring Stephen Graham, not only secured the award for Best Actor in a Limited Series but also took home trophies for Direction and Shared Writing. Graham expressed his gratitude, stating that the recognition proves that dreams can indeed come true.

The critically acclaimed miniseries, which garnered 140 million views in its first three months and entered with 13 nominations, also honored debutant Owen Cooper. At just 15, Cooper became the youngest winner in the Best Actor in a Comedy category.

“Adolescencia” was filmed in four episodes, each with a single take and presenting a unique perspective. Erin Doherty won Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series for her portrayal of a therapist in one of the tensest episodes.

“The Studio” Triumphs in Comedy

Apple TV+’s satirical take on the Hollywood industry, “The Studio,” claimed an early victory. Its protagonist and co-creator, Seth Rogen, won the first Emmy of the night for Best Actor in a Comedy.

Rogen returned to the stage multiple times to receive awards for Best Direction and Best Writing for a Comedy, which he shared with the writing team. With 23 nominations, “The Studio” secured the highest number for a comedy in a single year.

In further comedy news, Jean Smart won her second Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in “Hacks,” where she plays a fading diva partnered with a young writer, Hannah Einbinder, who won her first Emmy.

“The Pitt” Reigns Supreme in Drama

The medical drama “The Pitt” overtook the science fiction thriller “Severance” to win the coveted Emmy for Best Drama Series. The 15-episode HBO|MAX series unfolds over the grueling, stressful shift in a Pittsburgh hospital.

Veteran Noah Wyle, known for “ER,” won Best Actor in a Drama for his portrayal of the tormented head of the emergency room. Katherine LaNasa took home Best Supporting Actress.

“Severance,” a dystopian series, had to settle for acting wins for Britt Lower (Best Actress in a Drama) and Tramell Tillman (Best Supporting Actor).
