Background and Context
President Claudia Sheinbaum initiated the “México con M de Migrante” lottery to honor and support Mexican migrants. The event took place at Palacio Postal, with a top prize of 255 million pesos divided into ten prizes of 25.5 million pesos each, aiming to increase the number of winners. Three prizes were awarded in Mexico City, one in Morelos, one in Tabasco, and another through digital sales.
Olivia Salomón, the Director of the National Lottery, reported that over 1.5 million people participated in purchasing a lottery ticket, resulting in total sales of 338.5 million pesos, with a profit of 115.9 million pesos after prize payments.
The lottery achieved a record-breaking 60 million pesos in digital channels, doubling the sales compared to the 2024 Special Lottery. It became the year’s most sold lottery, surpassing the closest competitor by 182.7 million pesos.
Lottery Performance and Humanist Vision
Salomón praised the lottery’s success, emphasizing that it reflects more than just numbers and acknowledges the National Lottery’s participation in Mexico’s Fourth Transformation. In just 56 days, the lottery became the second-highest percentage of sales compared to Great Special Lotteries.
Salomón also reflected on the humanist vision that has led to the highest average sales per lottery in 25 years, restoring the National Lottery’s prestige lost during neoliberal governments.
Allocation of Funds
Secretary Juan Ramón de la Fuente expressed gratitude to Mexicans who participated in the Special Lottery 303, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The funds will be directed towards six short-term actions and programs to address the most pressing needs of the migrant community, with clear, transparent, and regular measurement of impact:
- Legal representation and guidance in migration and criminal matters.
- Strengthening capacities at consular offices with high demand for protection, starting with 11 locations.
- Consular protection visits to detention centers, workplaces, and prisons.
- Extraordinary preventive protection measures in remote locations away from the consulate.
- Assistance for emergencies caused by natural disasters and support for vulnerable individuals affected by floods, fires, hurricanes, etc.
- Preventive programs and informational materials dissemination through social media and local outlets for the “Know and exercise your rights” campaign.
De la Fuente emphasized that resource allocation will be subject to a public accountability process, conducted trimesterly with transparency, rigor, and regularity to ensure clear understanding of resource usage and its impact on communities.
