Introduction of Calidad Querétaro: A New Strategy for Local Business Promotion
Querétaro, Qro. A new state initiative called Calidad Querétaro aims to distinguish the qualities of products made in the entity. Starting October 1, a platform will be available for businesses to obtain a distinction and increase promotion and distribution channels, explained Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, Secretary of Sustainable Development (Sedesu).
Three Main Focus Areas
- Foster marketing efforts: Encourage local businesses to market their products effectively.
- Generate a certification seal: Establish a reliable certification process for products.
- Promote direct sales: Facilitate direct sales channels for businesses to reach consumers.
Del Prete Tercero explained, “We’ve created a mechanism, strategy, and platform where businesses interested in the Calidad Querétaro distinction can participate. This platform will not only serve as a promotional channel but also expand distribution channels, addressing the key challenges businesses face: producing high-quality products and securing effective distribution channels.”
Background on Calidad Querétaro Initiative
The project began two years ago, with the promotion of local businesses through Calidad Querétaro’s social media channels. So far, 140 businesses have been promoted, reaching three million impacts monthly.
With the new platform, Calidad Querétaro aims to support emerging local entrepreneurship as well.
Querétaro’s Leadership in Fostering Entrepreneurship
According to Sedesu’s head, Querétaro ranks first nationally in fostering entrepreneurship, citing the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor study. The state surpasses even São Paulo, Brazil, a prominent entrepreneurship promoter.
The Instituto Queretano del Emprendimiento y la Innovación (IQEI) played a crucial role in achieving this position, he added.
Support from Querétaro’s Governor
During the Calidad Querétaro presentation, Governor Mauricio Kuri González highlighted the role of Querétaro’s entrepreneurial and business community in maintaining product quality.
At the launch of this network integrating producers, artisans, chefs, businesses, and various projects, Kuri González also encouraged local consumption.
Economic Units in Querétaro
In 2023, the state registered 97,696 economic units, reflecting a 20.3% growth compared to the 81,224 units in 2018, according to the latest two Economic Censuses (CE) by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
By size, 92.7% are microenterprises, 6.9% are small and medium enterprises (SMEs), 0.4% are large companies, the CE for 2024 specifies.
