About the Event

The Mexican Council for Sustainable Finance (CMFS) is hosting the FSMX25 forum on October 1 and 2 at Papalote Children’s Museum in Mexico City. The event combines conferences with key decision-makers from the financial system, five thematic tables, and three practical workshops with limited seating to delve into regulations and methodologies such as Mexico’s Sustainable Taxonomy.

Key Speakers and Topics

The event kicks off with a focus on the macroeconomic framework and public policy. María del Carmen Bonilla, Subsecretary of the Ministry of Fiscal and Credit Public (SHCP), will lead the discussion titled “Sustainability Pathways,” focusing on aligning Mexico’s Plan with the development agenda. Eduardo Suárez Mogollón from Scotiabank will deliver a conference on the financial implications of environment and social well-being.

Alba Aguilar, General Director of CMFS, explains that the first block of conferences revolves around banking and markets as drivers of sustainable financing. A panel featuring BIVA, IFC, and Scotiabank will address transforming credit portfolios, improving risk analysis, and scaling traditional investments towards ESG criteria.

María Sánchez, Director of Sustainability Index Product Management at S&P, will present on “Innovation in Indices” and climate resilience, a crucial topic for issuers and managers needing comparable metrics for portfolio design and benchmarks.

Key Themes

This year’s FSMX25 slogan is “Redesigning Together the Future of Finance.” The conversation will shift to asset managers and their collaborative relationship with issuers. Afore SURA, Afore Banamex, S&P, and Pemex will participate, moderated by a representative from PRI (Principles for Responsible Investment).

“The focus is on elevating responsible investment practices and corporate dialogue, indispensable for aligning decarbonization goals, disclosure, and corporate governance with market expectations,” says Alba Aguilar.

Another central theme is climate and biodiversity in Latin America, with representatives from FIRA, Transforma Colombia, Libélula (Peru), and Santander Mexico. The table will address physical and transition risks, financing nature-based solutions, and mechanisms to integrate biodiversity metrics into financial analysis.

Day 2 Agenda

The second day begins with sustainable infrastructure and subnational financing by Banobras, followed by a session on climate policy with Michael Sheren (Green Investment Principles / Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership).

Later, Santander and UNEP FI will discuss sustainability management in diverse contexts; Afore XXI Banorte will present investments in infrastructure to mitigate climate change. Two panels will tackle sectoral challenges: risks and resilience in agro-food (Heineken, Nestlé, HarvCrest, BBVA) and “the infrastructure of the future” (Fibra Educa, Balam Energy, AMEFIBRA, CISA).

The event concludes with BMV’s conference “Purpose Markets” and a final dialogue with the Secretariat of Finance in Mexico City.

Who Should Attend

The agenda is relevant for multiple and investment banks, Afores, asset managers, issuers and market participants, ESG/risk areas, consultants, and subnational governments preparing bankable projects in infrastructure, water, energy, and agro-food chains.

FSMX25 facilitates direct contact with regulators, multilaterals, and stock exchanges and offers technical resources (indices, taxonomies, TNFD) to adjust portfolios, disclosure, and corporate governance.
