Introduction to Querétaro’s Thriving Tourism Sector

Querétaro, Mexico – During the last four years, Querétaro has experienced a significant economic boost from tourism activities, with a derrama (ripple effect) of 103 billion pesos, according to Adriana Vega Vázquez Mellado, the Secretary of Tourism in Querétaro. This information was shared during her state of the fourth governance report.

Vega Vázquez Mellado highlighted that tourism has become a crucial motor for Querétaro’s economy, consolidating its importance during her address to members of the LXI Legislature.

Key Statistics and Investments in Tourism Infrastructure

Presenting the accumulated statistics from 2021 to 2027, Vega Vázquez Mellado reported that Querétaro welcomed 74 million visitors and maintained an occupancy rate of 64% in its hotels.

  • An investment of 136 million pesos was made in tourism infrastructure, positively impacting 23 million tourists.
  • Public and private investments totaling 85 million pesos were allocated to develop 54 tourism infrastructure and equipment projects.

Capacity Building and Training in the Tourism Sector

In terms of capacity building, more than 17,000 service providers have received advice through 650 courses on 30 topics. During this administration, 190 individuals have obtained labor competency standards certification.

“We have an internal instructor who enables us to reach all communities with over 30 courses… Each municipality and community progresses at its own pace, and we have more than 650 courses throughout the administration,” Vega Vázquez Mellado stated.

In the past year, 66 new certified tourist guides have been added to the existing pool of 200 certified guides in Querétaro.
