Overview of the Initiative
The Head of Government, Clara Brugada Molina, kicked off the “Educación Utopía” program in 16 basic education schools across Mexico City’s 16 boroughs. This initiative aims to transform schools into vital community hubs, offering comprehensive, inclusive, and community-focused education by providing over 50 free activities in arts, sciences, sports, culture, technology, and more.

Launch Event
The launch event took place at the Secundaria Técnica No. 18 “Plan de Ayala” in San Pablo Oztotepec, Milpa Alta alcaldía. Brugada Molina emphasized that the program aims to integrate more schools monthly, eventually encompassing all primary and secondary schools in Mexico City.
Program Objectives
Brugada Molina explained that “Educación Utopía” seeks to complement traditional academic learning with hands-on experiences in arts, sciences, sports, culture, and technology. The program’s name reflects the historical dream of schools becoming community centers where students learn not only academic subjects but also create, socialize, and build community.
Program Components
- Extracurricular Workshops: Robotics, nanotechnology, musical theater, national and international languages (including Náhuatl), and more.
- Sports and Recreation: Promotion of sports tournaments like the City-wide Soccer Tournament and organization of outings for swimming and other disciplines.
- Health and Well-being: Integration of mental, physical, and nutritional health services through the “Vida Plena Corazón Contento” program.
- Culture and Tradition: Encouragement of community orchestras, gastronomy, and traditional knowledge like mole preparation and mushroom cultivation.
- Experiences Outside the Classroom: Monthly cultural and recreational excursions to various city locations for enrolled students.
