Preparations Underway as Hurricane Priscilla Intensifies

Mexico’s National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued an alert for heavy rainfall in southern Baja California Sur, central and southern Sinaloa, as well as northern and central Nayarit due to Hurricane Priscilla, currently a Category 2 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale.

Meanwhile, Jalisco and Colima are expected to experience strong rainfall along with winds of 60 to 70 kilometers per hour (km/h).

As of late Tuesday, the hurricane’s center was approximately 345 kilometers south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, and 535 kilometers west of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco. The SMN has established a surveillance zone from Cabo San Lucas to Cabo San Lázaro in Baja California Sur.

President Sheinbaum Coordinates Efforts in Los Cabos

Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum, has been updating the public through her social media channels that authorities at all levels of government are coordinating and preparing in Los Cabos to assist the population amidst forecasts of heavy rainfall.

Sheinbaum warned that Hurricane Priscilla is expected to strengthen into a Category 3 during today’s afternoon and continue moving parallel to Baja California Sur’s western coast.

Formation of Tropical Storm Octave Reported

The SMN also reported the formation of Tropical Storm Octave in the Pacific Ocean.

The meteorological phenomenon is located southwest of the Baja California Peninsula. However, due to its distance and easterly southeasterly trajectory, the storm poses no threat to Mexican territory.
