Overview of Venture Capital Activity in Mexico

The venture capital market in Mexico experienced a contraction during the third quarter of 2025, according to TTRData’s quarterly report. Between July and September, 14 venture capital deals worth $233 million were recorded, a decrease from the 25 transactions and $298 million observed in the same period of 2024.

Comparison with Previous Quarters

Compared to the second quarter of 2025, which saw 19 deals worth $367 million, the decline in activity was also evident during the summer months.

From January to September 2025, Mexico accumulated 55 venture capital transactions totaling $1,005 million. This represents a negative variation of 21.43% in the number of operations and 5.74% in total value compared to the same period in the previous year.

Historical Context

In 2021, there were 173 venture capital deals worth $4,944 million. In 2022, the numbers dropped to 163 deals worth $2,574 million. In 2023, the volume fell further to 114 transactions and $1,046 million, while in 2024, it decreased again to 85 deals but with an increased total value of $1,674 million.

With 2025 results showing 55 rounds and over $1,000 million by September, the downward trend in the number of operations continues, although the added amounts have remained relatively stable over the past two years.

Foreign vs. Domestic Investments

The dominance of foreign capital remains a structural characteristic of the Mexican ecosystem. In 2024, there were 80 international deals worth $1,661 million and only five domestic ones worth $95 million. In 2023, the figures were 96 cross-border deals worth $951 million and 18 local ones totaling $97 million. The proportions are similar in 2025, with foreign capital maintaining the majority share.

Leading Venture Capital Firms

IGNIA Partners, based in Mexico, leads in the number of deals with five transactions totaling $54.16 million. Following closely are Y Combinator from the US with four rounds worth $116.81 million and Semilla Ventures, also from Mexico, with four operations totaling $5.91 million.

Kaszek Ventures from Argentina participated in three deals worth $108.60 million; FinTech Collective from the US had three rounds worth $93 million; and BBVA Spark México conducted three transactions worth $91.24 million.

Other notable firms in the year’s activity include Clocktower Technology Ventures from the US with three deals worth $33.25 million and Tantauco Ventures from Chile with three worth $6.20 million.

Sector Focus

According to TTRData, most transactions concentrated in the areas of Specific for Industries, Internet, IT Services and Software, Banking and Investment, and Distribution and Retail. These categories group the companies that attracted the most capital during 2025.

Notable deals include Kapital ($86 million), mattilda ($50 million), Tuhabi ($40 million), Monato ($13 million), and Momento ($10.25 million).

Market Performance Overview

The overall transaction market in Mexico has shown mixed behavior. Including mergers and acquisitions, private equity, venture capital, and asset purchases, TTRData counted 208 transactions from January to September 2025, a decrease of 27.27% compared to the same period in the previous year.

However, the total aggregated value reached $19,283 million, marking a 43.80% interannual increase. Within this total, venture capital contributed 55 deals and $1,005 million, equivalent to slightly more than 5% of the overall Mexican transaction market value in the first nine months of 2025.
