Introduction to the New Sistema Nacional de Bachillerato (SNB)

Mario Delgado Carrillo, Mexico’s Secretary of Public Education (SEP), announced significant changes to the National Bachelor System (SNB) as part of Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s Nueva Escuela Mexicana (NEM). These reforms aim to provide comprehensive education for young people, ensuring equal opportunities in academic and personal development.

Marco Curricular Común (MCC) Implementation

The Marco Curricular Común (MCC) will be implemented in the current school year to promote mobility between educational subsystems and ensure more students’ access to bachelor’s degrees. Delgado Carrillo emphasized that this unified curriculum strengthens educational quality and equity across Mexico.

Key Features of the MCC

  • Promotes mobility between subsystems, making the educational offer more attractive and encouraging student retention.
  • Dual certification with prestigious institutions such as UNAM, IPN, UAM, and TecNM.
  • Introduction of new technical careers: Ciberseguridad, E-commerce, Electromovilidad, Inteligencia Artificial, Nanotecnología, Robótica, and Semiconductores.

Curriculum Components

The MCC consists of three components:

  1. Fundamental Curriculum: Integrates essential knowledge areas like language and communication, mathematical thinking, historical consciousness, and digital culture.
  2. Labor Curriculum: Strengthens technical and professional competencies for youth employability, providing them with tools to enter the productive world with enhanced capabilities.
  3. Expanded Curriculum: Promotes artistic, sports, and cultural activities accompanying students’ academic journeys, reinforcing holistic formation and school community well-being.

Transversal Axes of the MCC

The MCC is organized around seven transversal axes: inclusion, critical thinking, intercultural critique, gender equality, healthy lifestyle, fostering reading and writing. These axes guide teaching practices and establish a humanistic, scientific, and social education.

New Technical Careers

As part of this educational transformation, new technical careers will be introduced for the 2025-2026 school year, including Ciberseguridad, E-commerce, Electromovilidad, Inteligencia Artificial, Nanotecnología, Robótica, and Semiconductores. These specialties will be implemented in the Polos de Desarrollo para el Bienestar, enabling students to obtain certifications that broaden their professional opportunities in strategic sectors.

Dual Certification: An Innovative Step for a Better Future

For the first time, students will receive two official certificates upon completing their studies: one for Termination of Studies and another for Professional Formation, both endorsed by prestigious institutions like UNAM, IPN, UAM, and Tecnológico Nacional de México.

  • Question:
Answer: The dual certification represents a significant step towards more practical, modern, and recognized education. It ensures that young people graduate not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills to enter the workforce or continue their higher education successfully.
  • Question:
Answer: The new educational model offers two formative paths: the General Bachelor, centered on a fundamental and expanded curriculum with basic labor competencies; and the Technological Bachelor, which incorporates a fundamental and expanded curriculum with extended labor competencies.

Consultation with Teachers for Improving Medium Superior Education

SEP’s Secretary Mario Delgado Carrillo announced that, through the Subsecretariat of Medium Superior Education (SEMS) and the Sectorial Coordination for Academic Strengthening (COSFAC), a National Discussion Day was held on October 24 for 423,587 teachers and state educational authorities.

This national exercise, within the framework of the SNB, aimed to foster an open, reflective, and constructive dialogue between educational communities two months before the Model Educative 2025 implementation.

Delgado Carrillo explained that the purpose of the National Day was to strengthen understanding of the new model and enrich the curriculum update with teachers’ experience and proposals.

“With all these actions, we are building an education system that forms integral, creative, and committed individuals to Mexico’s development,” he concluded.
