Volaris Joins Puebla Airport’s Growing Route Offerings

The international airport in Puebla, Mexico, is expanding its flight offerings with the addition of Volaris for flights to Guadalajara, starting November 5th. There will be two daily frequencies on this route, and the airport aims to secure another flight to Los Angeles with a layover in Tijuana before the end of 2025, according to Víctor Gabriel Chedraui, the Secretary of Economic Development and Labor (Sedetra).

Current Flight Offerings

As of early 2025, the Puebla airport had five domestic routes and one international destination. Now, it boasts 11 domestic destinations and five international flights.

  • Domestic: Cancún, Tijuana, Guadalajara, Mérida, Monterrey, Chihuahua, Puerto Escondido (Oaxaca), Tuxtla Gutiérrez (Chiapas), Huatulco (Oaxaca), Hermosillo (Sonora), Los Cabos (Baja California), Puerto Vallarta (Jalisco), and León (Guanajuato).
  • International: Houston

Future Expansion Plans

Volaris is the only airline set to begin operations soon, but more airlines may join next year if demand increases. A flight with a layover in the northern part of Mexico will help airlines gather demand statistics, potentially leading to direct flights from Puebla and neighboring states like Morelos or Tlaxcala.

Strategic Location and Capacity

Puebla’s central location makes it an ideal hub for reaching any part of Mexico and the United States. Currently, the airport operates at only 5% of its cargo capacity and has 11 daily commercial flights, whereas it could accommodate up to 18 per hour.

The goal is to elevate Puebla’s airport status in the central region, making it a preferred flight option for residents of neighboring states instead of relying on flights to Mexico City.
