Global and Mexican Performance

BBVA announced a profit of 28,140 million pesos in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 10.4% growth compared to the same period last year. This positive outcome was driven by increased recurring income, higher expenses, greater provisions, and taxes.

On a global scale, BBVA recorded a profit of 2,698 million euros, with Mexico contributing over 45% to this result.

Onur Genç, CEO of BBVA globally, praised the group’s outstanding performance, particularly in Mexico and Spain.

Mexican Performance Highlights

Eduardo Osuna, Vice President and General Director of BBVA Mexico, stated that despite clear signs of economic slowdown, the first quarter was very successful for the bank.

During a press conference, Osuna detailed that the loan portfolio grew by 17.1% in the period, surpassing 1.9 trillion pesos.

This growth was partly influenced by the exchange rate effect, as a portion of the portfolio is dollar-denominated.

  • The loan portfolio for families increased by 12.3% to reach 861,000 million pesos.
  • The portfolio for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) grew by 22.6% to total 143,000 million pesos.
  • The corporate loan portfolio (larger companies) increased by 24.6% to reach 727,000 million pesos.
  • The government loan portfolio grew by 8.7%.

“We are meeting all the credit demand we can handle,” Osuna mentioned.

Non-performing Loans and Deposit Growth

BBVA Mexico’s non-performing loans closed the first quarter of 2025 at 1.5%.

Total deposits (demand, term, savings, and investment funds) showed a 17% increase in the quarter, reaching nearly 3 trillion pesos.

Osuna highlighted the strong growth in investment funds.
