The Rivals Face Off in Turin for the Last Time in 2025

For the sixth and final time in 2025, the world’s top-ranked player, Carlos Alcaraz, and second-ranked Jannik Sinner will face off in another chapter of their intense rivalry. The highly anticipated Masters ATP final will take place on Sunday in Turin, featuring the two players who dominated the season by collecting all four Grand Slam titles (Australian Open and Wimbledon for Sinner, Roland Garros and US Open for Alcaraz) and the last eight Masters 1000 titles.

Auger-Aliassime and De Miñaur Fall Short in Semifinals

Both Alcaraz and Sinner were heavy favorites in their respective semifinals, leaving no room for surprises against the unexpected finalists: Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (world No. 8) and Australian Alex De Miñaur (world No. 7).

  • Alcaraz conceded only six games to Auger-Aliassime (6-2, 6-4), while Sinner lost seven games to De Miñaur (7-5, 6-2), overwhelmed by the hometown hero’s powerful shots.
  • For the first time in his career, Carlitos, who was eliminated in the group stage last year, can now aim for the Masters title.
  • After a scare in his second match against American Taylor Fritz (6-7, 7-5, 6-3), the Murcian player adapted perfectly to the Inalpi Arena in Turin.
  • On Saturday, he disoriented Auger-Aliassime, who couldn’t respond to the power and precision of Alcaraz’s right-handed shots, winning in 1 hour and 24 minutes.

Alcaraz expressed his confidence in the season and his ability to handle nerves, stating, “At the group stage, my goal was to be No. 1, and it’s challenging to deal with the pressure… Having achieved that goal, I’ve put in extra focus, which has paid off.”

However, to secure his ninth title and twenty-fifth of his career at 22, Alcaraz must overcome significant challenges:

“I’m ready, I was born for moments like this. Facing Jannik in a final, in his home turf and indoors, is one of the biggest tests,” Alcaraz added.

Sinner’s Impressive Streak

Sinner’s statistics for his third consecutive Masters ATP final are truly remarkable.

  • Sinner, the defending champion, extended his winning streak against De Miñaur to thirteen wins in fifteen encounters, achieving his thirtieth consecutive victory on hardcourt, his preferred surface, ranking fifth in the longest streaks in history.
  • He also secured his ninth consecutive Masters ATP victory without losing a set since his 2023 final loss to Serbian Novak Djokovic.

“I’m very happy to end my season in a final after an incredible year for me. This is the kind of match that allows me to see where I truly stand,” Sinner said, who was suspended for three months earlier in the year due to two positive anabolic steroid tests.

Sinner, seeking his twenty-fourth title and sixth of the year, has a perfect opportunity to settle the score with his main rival, who has won four out of their five encounters in 2025—all in finals.

Sinner’s Absence from Coppa Davis Final

The only certainty in this final between the two best players on the planet is that it will be Sinner’s last match of 2025, as he has decided not to participate in the Coppa Davis finals, which begin on Tuesday in Bologna. Unlike Alcaraz or German Alexander Zverev (world No. 3), Italy, the current two-time champion of the tournament, will not be represented in the event.
