Regions with Strong Rainfall Forecast
Residents of Veracruz, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Quintana Roo should not forget their umbrellas. The National Weather Service (SMN) warns of heavy rainfall, with accumulations reaching up to 50 mm. Authorities have urged special attention in the following areas:
- Veracruz: Región Olmeca, Papaloapan, and Los Tuxtlas.
- Oaxaca: Northeastern part of the state.
- Chiapas: Eastern and southeastern regions.
- Quintana Roo: Southern and southeastern areas.
These rains could lead to increased river and stream levels, as well as landslides or flooding in low-lying areas. In the Isthmus and Tehuantepec Gulf, wind gusts between 60 and 70 km/h are expected during the morning, gradually weakening as the day progresses.
Sunshine and Heat Dominate in the Northwest
While the southeast experiences a respite with rain, a high-pressure system has settled over Mexico’s northwest. This means stable weather, clear skies, and rising temperatures.
- Intense Heat: 35 to 40 degrees Celsius in Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas (coastal areas and the Isthmus).
- Warm Conditions: 30 to 35 degrees Celsius in Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Durango, Coahuila, Nuevo León, and Tamaulipas.
Weather in Mexico City and the Valley of Mexico
For those living in the capital and its surrounding areas, Saturday began with cold to cool temperatures and the presence of fog and patches of low-lying clouds in higher elevations.
- Mexico City: A mild afternoon with partly cloudy skies and isolated rainfall. The maximum temperature will range from 21 to 23 degrees Celsius.
- Toluca, Edomex: Chilly mornings with minimum temperatures between 0 and 2 degrees Celsius, expecting a maximum of just 20 °C.
Extreme Temperatures: Frost in the Mountains
Winter shows no mercy in mountainous regions. This morning, freezing temperatures were recorded, particularly in the north:
- -10 to -5 degrees Celsius with frost: Sierras of Chihuahua and Durango.
- -5 to 0 degrees Celsius: High-altitude areas of Baja California, Sonora, Coahuila, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, Zacatecas, and central Mexico (Edomex, Tlaxcala, and Puebla).
A New Cold Front Approaches
Don’t put away your winter coats just yet. The SMN is monitoring a new cold front that will approach northeastern Mexico during Sunday’s daytime hours, potentially bringing another temperature drop and winds in that region at the start of the following week. Stay informed and take precautions if you plan outdoor activities this Saturday.
